On August 12, 2026, the first WARDA® – Women Against Rape & Domestic Abuse® class in a new monthly training series was held at the Indianapolis City-County Building for City of Indianapolis and Marion County employees.

Thirteen women representing several City and County government offices and agencies participated in the 90-minute class, including employees from the Indianapolis Fire Department and the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

The class combined important information about sexual assault, victims and offenders with hands-on counter-assault training. Participants learned and practiced simple, practical techniques designed to increase awareness, confidence and their ability to respond during a physical assault.

The training was enthusiastically received, with participants leaving with a strong sense of confidence and accomplishment and looking forward to future classes.

WARDA® classes will be held on the first Wednesday of each month at the City-County Building. The training is sponsored by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office and is an initiative of Deputy Chief Kelvis Williams.

Classes are taught by Lt. Javed Khan of the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, a Grandmaster of Khan Do Kwan and Taekwondo, and the founder and creator of WARDA®.

WARDA® – I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN SAFETY.
